For over a quarter century, American Machining has set the industry standard for excellence in servicing metal Intermediate Bulk Containers. AMI provides you with complete compliance to the mandated DOT / UN requirements for your IBC fleet, including certified conversions with fast turn-around. AMI prepares and maintains all documents, and stores copies of your records for the mandatory two and one half years.

For IBC’s intended to contain solids loaded or discharged under pressure, or for IBC’s used for liquids, the requirements for re-certification, as outlined in 49 CFR 180.352 include:

  • 2-1/2 year intervals
    • Leakproofness testing per 49 CFR 178.813
    • External visual inspections to confirm
      • The IBC is capable of withstanding the applicable qualification tests, as well as being free from cracks, warping, corrosion, or other damage which may render the IBC unsuitable for transportation.
      • Service equipment is fully functional and free from damage
      • The IBC is marked according to current regulations and updated with the test date.
  • 5 year intervals include the requirements for 2-1/2 year intervals, plus
    • Internal visual inspections to confirm
      • The IBC is capable of withstanding the applicable qualification tests, as well as being free from cracks, warping, corrosion, or other damage which may render the IBC unsuitable for transportation.
    • Verification of minimum wall thickness per 49 CFR 178.705
      • AMI uses sophisticated ultrasonic measuring instrumentation to ensure your compliance.
  • After any repair or conversion
    • Leakproofness testing
    • Internal and external visual inspection
    • Marking requirements of 49 CFR 180.352(d)(iv)
      • Country where testing was performed
      • AMI’s authorized symbol
      • Date of tests and inspections
